What is Esculin

Esculin is a bittering agent. Naringin dihydrochalcone obtained by hydrolysis and hydrogenation of this product is a sweetener with a sweetness about 150 times that of sucrose. It has anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, anticoagulant, analgesic and other activities, and has a significant diuretic effect on mice. It can inhibit aldose reductase in the lens of rat eyes, and is a growth inhibitor of Bacillus subtilis. It also has an inhibitory effect on chemically induced cancer.

1. Anti-inflammatory and analgesic: intraperitoneal injection of 10 mg/kg in rats has inhibitory effects on carrageenan-related, dextrose-related, 5-hydroxytryptamine-related and histamine-related "arthritis", and the inhibition intensity is respectively 35, 28, 20, 8%. It has also been reported that it also has an inhibitory effect on formaldehyde-induced "arthritis", but the effect is weaker than that on carrageenan-induced "arthritis"; it also has no inhibitory effect on dextran-induced "arthritis". Obviously, it can inhibit the formation of granuloma in rats (cotton ball method), the erythema reaction caused by ultraviolet irradiation on the back of guinea pigs, and the increase in capillary permeability caused by histamine. It has a weak analgesic effect.
2. Effect on urine output and uric acid excretion: Various administration routes can increase uric acid excretion in rats and rabbits. It has no diuretic effect on normal rats, but has a significant diuretic effect on mice.

3. Others: It has antibacterial, anti-hemagglutination, and inhibits aldose reductase in the lens of rat eyes.
